After eight years with the Latin group CNCO, Erick Brian is stepping into his solo era. With the release of his debut EP “BTW… Lo intenté,” he’s opening up like never before, revealing deeply personal stories and heartfelt lyrics that showcase his evolution as both an artist and a person.

The Cuban-born artist defines his new musical phase as a time of emotional honesty, creative freedom, and crafting a sound that’s entirely his own. Erick talks about the nostalgic tones of “Aniversario” to his excitement about returning to the stage, and gives us an honest look at life after the band—and what it really means to find your voice.

INTERVIEW WITH ERICK BRIAN

Your new EP “BTW… Lo intenté” has plenty of deep, emotional tracks. How was the process of opening up and being vulnerable for this record?

ERICK: It was definitely a challenge because I felt that people were going to meet my vulnerable-self for the first time. I’m talking about more personal experiences and I felt like I was exposed, almost naked, but at the same time I wanted to do it like this because I wanted to speak from a place of sincerity, from a genuine space, and I think that’s pretty cool.

We’ve been listening to your new single “Aniversario” on repeat. How does it feel to release new music in your solo career?

ERICK: I’m so happy you listened to that song—it’s actually my favorite! Releasing new music and stepping into this new chapter of my career feels amazing. It’s like starting from scratch, which is both exciting and refreshing. I’ve really been enjoying all the feedback from listeners about the EP.

Which producers have you been working with during this new composition phase?

ERICK: Composing new songs was a beautiful and difficult process. I felt like I had a lot of songs and selecting the right ones for the EP was a challenging task. But I had Warner Music’s help, talented composers and producers, and I learned so much from them. We made a great team. I’m not only ending with great songs, but great friends and relationships.

Tell us how your sound has evolved now that you’re a solo artist. How is it different from what you did with CNCO?

ERICK: This new EP is mostly nostalgic, truly emotional, there’s a song called “Playboy” that has a a higher beat, it is a bit more sexy. But overall, it’s pop, it talks about me, about my experiences, and what has happened over the past few years.

Is there a particular song that you feel represents this new beginning?

ERICK: I think “Aniversario” would be that song. Because it is the track I’ve had the longest. I was super excited when the song was released. I wanted the whole EP to follow the journey of “Aniversario” and to live in the same world as this song.

Do you see yourself collaborating with Mexican artists in this new phase?

ERICK: I’d really love to collaborate with a Mexican artist. I have a very talented friend, Gera Demara—we’ve already worked on two songs together that I absolutely love. I’m also really inspired by everything that’s happening in Mexican music right now, and I have a feeling something exciting is on the way!

If you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would that artist be?

ERICK: Billie Eilish

What’s one item you always make sure to pack in your luggage when you’re on tour?

ERICK: This is a little embarrassing to admit, but it’s true—I have a small throw blanket that I always bring with me because I need it to sleep. It’s super comforting, and I’ve had it since I was a kid. I’ve never been able to let go of that habit!

What learnings are you taking from your time at CNCO?

ERICK: Everything I know, till this day, I learned with CNCO. From singing to kind-of dancing, because it isn’t my favorite thing. Everything I’ve learned with them has helped me tremendously on my solo career, I have so many things with them and of our time together.

What’s next for this EP. Is there a tour in development?

ERICK: Nothing is confirmed yet, but I’m eager to start traveling, touring, and performing again. I feel the need to return to Latin America—Mexico, Chile, Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Ecuador, and many more—to share these songs live. I truly hope it happens this year, God willing. On my end, I’m ready and can’t wait to get started.
