With the release of their latest single, “América,” Mexican rock band Porter ushers in a fearless new chapter, one that fuses sonic evolution with sharp social commentary. Known for their atmospheric soundscapes and poetic lyricism, the Guadalajara-based band now leans into an edgier, more socially charged direction as they gear up for their next full-length album, Rituales, slated for release in 2026.

Porter describes the song as “a shared memory,” a reflection on both personal and collective identity shaped by the geopolitical landscape. With lines like “Ya patentó el maíz, América, ya se apropió la tierra” (“America already patented corn, already took the land”), the single speaks directly to the long-standing tension across borders.

The track’s bold lyricism and experimental sound point to a band unafraid to reinvent itself. Words like “powerful,” “experimental,” “freedom,” and “artful” have surfaced from fans to describe this new cycle of Porter’s music. In their own words, the band sees this period as “a new block of history” in their career, one that focuses on the tension of the human experience.

“We try to imprint what we see around us, which is human life today: the roles, routines, and different experiences that keep us trapped in cycles, repetitions, and rituals.”

A STRONG STATEMENT: SONICALLY AND VISUALLY

“América” is more than a song, it’s a full-on statement. Produced by Héctor Castillo, whose credits include work with David Bowie and Gustavo Cerati, and recorded at the legendary Sonic Ranch (home to albums like Fiona Apple’s Fetch the Bolt Cutters), the track blends raw artistry with meticulous production.

On the visual side, Porter tapped Abel Barriga of Desmuncubic to translate their concept into imagery. His visual universe is as critical and thought-provoking as the song itself. Aimed at the cult of artificial beauty, the false promise of wellness products, and the destructive cycle of consumerism. “I tried to translate all of that irony and satire into the illustration,” Barriga explained. The visuals serve as a prelude to what’s to come. Each new single from Rituales will build on this world of human repetition, excess, and resistance.
