San Diego honored civil rights legend Dolores Huerta on her 95th birthday with a heartfelt celebration on April 10th, hosted by Vision Music Agency in collaboration with the Dolores Huerta Foundation. Hoppy Daze Tap Room hosted the event in its Chula Vista location, where supporters from both sides of the border stopped by for an evening of music, unity, and tribute to the co-founder of the United Farm Workers and creator of the iconic: “¡Sí se puede!”
“¡SÍ SE PUEDE!” ECHOES IN CHULA VISTA AS DOLORES HUERTA TURNS 95
The night opened with a special videoconference from Dolores Huerta herself, who expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, setting the tone for a night of reflection and celebration. The crowd also sang “Las Mañanitas” to the star of the show. This led into a dynamic lineup of live music featuring melodic rock by Edwin Music, empowering anthems by Giuliana, and nostalgic covers by Alicia The Band, joined by Cecy Millán.
“Thank you for coming together. I wish I could be there with you in person, but I will in the near future and I hope you have a really good concert. Thank you for remembering me and for celebrating my birthday, ¡Sí, se puede!”, she added, while everyone in the room chanted back “¡Sí se puede!”.
Edwin Music kickstarted the musical celebration with the 60’s rock & roll essence of his original songs and a few romantic melodies like Shakira’s Antología.
Giuliana and her band continued the musical bash with empowerment songs. The San Diego native singer and songwriter recalled meeting Dolores a few years back and remembered that moment as being a special memory.
The last act of the night was performed by Alicia The Band with Cecy Millán, who provided a nostalgic experience by bringing rock en español classics from Maná, La Maldita Vecindad, Alejandra Guzmán, among others, as well as English favorites from the 90s.
At 95, Dolores Huerta remains an unwavering force for social change, continuing to inspire new generations through advocacy, leadership development, and public policy work. The evening served not only as a birthday celebration but as a powerful reminder of the enduring impact one individual can make. Throughout the night, attendees continued to learn more about Dolores’ lifelong fight by watching videos of her activism, organizing work and legacy on screen.
