Musicians across genres are paying tribute to the Argentinian pontiff by revisiting the words and values he shared. As the first Latin American pope in history, Pope Francis, known as “Papa Francisco”, left an indelible mark for his progressive stance on social justice, equality, and compassion. He was often called “The People’s Pope”, a title echoed by many in the music world as they mourn his passing.

LATIN ARTISTS REMEMBER POPE FRANCIS WITH HEARTFELT MESSAGES

Colombian vallenato star, Carlos Vives, posted a heartfelt message from Pope Francis about embracing the very things that make us human, such as wounds, time, tears, and even mistakes, reminding us that these are what help us grow.

While salsa legend, Rubén Blades, highlighted the Pope’s commitment to acknowledging and repairing the Catholic Church’s historical wrongs, praising him as a leader who dared to confront uncomfortable truths.

Another musician who remembered the pontiff is Alejandro Sanz. The Spanish pop icon honored Pope Francis’ integrity, noting, “You didn’t try for everyone to like you, but you said what you liked based on your beliefs, and that’s the best way to keep hope alive.”

Puerto Rican artist and Calle 13 lead singer, Residente, also honored the pope by capturing the sentiment of the people with just three words: “Unrepeatable, special, unique.”

Meanwhile, Gloria Trevi reflected on his legacy of empathy, recalling his vocal support for marginalized communities and his firm opposition to war and violence.

Spanish rock band Maná joined the global chorus of voices remembering Pope Francis, honoring his legacy as a spiritual leader who wasn’t afraid to speak up for the voiceless. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the band applauded the pontiff’s efforts to defend marginalized and criminalized communities, including his support for LGBTQ+ individuals, and highlighted his environmental advocacy, expressing gratitude for his groundbreaking encyclical “Laudato Si. As artists known for their own activism, Maná’s tribute serves as a reminder that Pope Francis’ impact extended far beyond the walls of the Vatican.

Together, these artists paint a portrait of a spiritual leader who used his voice to uplift others and, in doing so, became a source of harmony across borders and generations.
