Born in the creative hub of La Plata, Buenos Aires, Peces Raros, the Argentinian duo made up of Lucio Consolo (vocals) and Marco Viera, has steadily carved out a unique space in the electronic music scene. Fusing their rock origins with the energy of new rave, the band has developed a distinctive sound built on pulsing synths, immersive guitar textures, and an undeniable rhythm that compels movement. Whether on the club circuit or commanding a festival stage, Peces Raros brings a sound that’s as dynamic as it is immersive.

Their latest project, Desconfiguración, Vol. 4, a remix reinterpretation of their 2024 album Artificial, further solidifies their commitment to genre-bending rhythms. Created in collaboration with a range of producers, the album reshapes original tracks for the dance floor, reflecting a vision that’s constantly shifting yet unmistakably theirs.

Fresh off appearances in Spain and an unforgettable opening set for The Chemical Brothers in Argentina, the duo continues to prove that their sound transcends borders, genres, and expectations. As they embark on their first U.S. tour with a stop at San Diego’s House of Blues, Peces Raros brings their “Live Set” format, an immersive, electronic-driven experience that reimagines their catalog through a futuristic lens.

INTERVIEW WITH PECES RAROS

Marco Viera and Lucio Consolo reflect on their creative journey, musical influences, and what fans can expect as they take the next bold step—introducing Peces Raros to U.S. audiences.

HUGE CONGRATS ON THE U.S. TOUR! WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT PERFORMING IN THESE CITIES?

MARCO: We’re really happy to be in the United States. It’s something we’ve wanted to do for years, but I think it’s come at the right time because we have a beautiful show to bring and showcase. We’ve grown a lot in other places, and it’s important to grow before taking that step into the U.S. So yes, we’re really excited about it.

YOUR SHOW AT OBRAS OUTDOOR BLEW AUDIENCES AWAY WITH ITS NEXT-LEVEL VISUALS AND SOUND. HOW MUCH INPUT WILL YOU HAVE IN CRAFTING THE VISUAL EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR U.S. DATES?

MARCO: In the U.S., we’ll be performing in the “Live Set” format, which features a more electronic setup with just Lucio and me. It’s different from the full band experience, this version leans heavily on machines and electronic elements. The songs have been reworked with a focus on the dance floor, drawing from remix versions we created during rehearsal sessions specifically for live performance.

LUCIO: The “Live” format is our signature setup. It allows us to reinterpret songs from across our albums with a more danceable, electronic sound. We perform with synthesizers, guitars, and mixes, but without the full band arrangement of drums and bass. That full band setup delivers a more classic rock experience, which we also enjoy, but this stripped-down version offers a different energy that we intentionally pursue. We recently brought this Live Set to Spain, performing in Ibiza, and it really connected with the audience.

CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS FOR YOUR NEW ALBUM DESCONFIGURACIÓN, VOL. 4, WHICH FEATURES REMIXES OF YOUR PREVIOUS ALBUM ARTIFICIAL?

LUCIO: Our latest release, Desconfiguraciones Vol. 4, is a remix album of Artificial and the tracks share a similar creative origin. There isn’t just one formula, some songs stem from guitar riffs, while others are built on digital beats. The remixes were crafted by producers we collaborate with, but the process itself is theirs. We invite these producers to select a track they connect with from the album and reinterpret it in their own style. It’s a creative collaboration where the producers bring new life to the music we originally created.

LOOKING AHEAD, ARE THERE PARTICULAR COMPOSERS OR PRODUCERS YOU’D BE INTERESTED IN COLLABORATING WITH?

MARCO: Not at the moment. We’re just beginning to brainstorm our next album. We plan to spend about ten days in the studio developing ideas and exploring the aesthetic direction for this upcoming project. It will be during that time that we consider potential producers or collaborators and evaluate if any partnerships might work. This is new territory for us, as we’ve always created our albums with Juan Stewart, our producer, and so far, we’ve only collaborated once with Trueno.

WHICH MUSICIANS OR STYLES HAVE SHAPED PECES RAROS’ CREATIVE PROCESS?

LUCIO: Our influences have always included The Beatles, Radiohead, Daft Punk, and The Chemical Brothers. Lately, we’ve been inspired by artists like Billie Eilish, Rosalía, and producers such as Fred Again and Unai Garcia, along with a strong presence of electronic music. Our sound is a fusion of many styles—we don’t follow just one band or genre but instead pull inspiration from a wide range of sources.

WHAT WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE LIKE OPENING FOR THE ICONIC ELECTRONIC GROUP THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS IN ARGENTINA?

LUCIO: In the electronic music scene, few artists hold the legendary status of The Chemical Brothers. And they invited us to join their show here in Argentina, marking their first visit in about 15 years. The anticipation surrounding their return was immense, and for us, being part of that event was a tremendous honor. We even had the chance to meet them and present a gift. It was an incredible and surreal experience.

HOW DO YOU VIEW THE ROLE OF ELECTRONIC GROUPS IN THE CURRENT STATE OF MUSIC FESTIVALS?

MARCO: Many festivals have broadened their scope, not just toward electronic music, but also toward a lot of new music that has emerged in recent years. For example, here in Argentina, urban music is still relatively new in historical terms. But there’s also been a paradigm shift in listening habits. Ten years ago, we weren’t used to hearing music without knowing where the sound source came from, but with all these new genres, listeners are more open to digital sounds. There’s been a wider opening not just from festivals but also from audiences—they’re more receptive to this kind of sound. You can see it reflected in lineups and also in consumption patterns.

WE’RE ALSO SEEING MORE ECLECTIC PLAYLISTS AMONG AUDIENCES, WHICH HELPS ELEVATE NEW ARTISTS WITH MORE ALTERNATIVE SOUNDS OUTSIDE OF TRADITIONAL LATIN GENRES.

LUCIO: The barriers haven’t disappeared between the music itself, but between the niches of people who listen to it. Before, the genre you listened to defined your identity much more—there were rivalries and people limited themselves to only certain types of music. Now, that’s no longer the case—and that’s a good thing.
