Morrissey, the iconic former frontman of The Smiths, was set to return to U.S. stages this January with multiple dates across the country, including a highly anticipated stop in San Diego. Unfortunately for San Diegans, the wait has been extended. The 66-year-old singer has canceled his first two January performances due to complications from a prescription medicine, delaying his NUDE Tour just days before the scheduled shows.

The show cancellations were officially announced on MORRISSEY-SOLO.COM, where his management shared the following statement:

“Due to an adverse reaction to a prescription medication, the Morrissey concert originally scheduled on Saturday January 3, 2026 has been postponed.

Please hold onto your tickets as they will be honored for a rescheduled date. Should you wish to request a refund, please contact your original point of purchase.

Requests for refunds must be received before February 2, 2026 at 5:00pm PST.”

While many fans expressed concern and understanding, others reacted with frustration, particularly within segments of the Latino fandom. In a pointed form of protest, some disgruntled fans began sharing meat-heavy recipes online, a direct jab at Morrissey’s famously uncompromising vegan stance.

Morrissey has long made veganism a core part of both his identity and activism. He is known for requiring meat-free venues at his concerts and using his platform to advocate for animal rights and climate action. His 1985 declaration “Meat Is Murder” remains central to his public persona, and he has repeatedly described serving meat at events tied to his performances as hypocritical.

Despite the backlash, fans remain hopeful. Morrissey has not released new music since “Rebels Without Applause,” issued on November 25, 2022, and the promise of new material, paired with a 2026 U.S. tour, has kept anticipation high.

On social media today, Morrissey confirmed his return to the stage, addressing the affected cities directly:

“Apologies to the loyal fans affected in Rancho Mirage and San Diego.
The tour will start in San Antonio at the sold-out Boeing Center this Saturday, January 10th.”

The San Antonio performance marks the tour’s third sold-out date and signals a renewed momentum for the NUDE Tour as it moves forward.

At the same time, Morrissey has placed fans in suspense with an announcement expected this Friday, January 9. Many believe the signer will release new music which would mark his first potential single since 2022. A cryptic quote shared ahead of the release reads: “by midnight came an outburst / so much louder than a cloudburst”, believed to be lyrics from the forthcoming track. The social post has only intensified speculation and anticipation among longtime fans.
