Los Angeles darkwave duo Parallel 33 continues to build momentum with the release of their latest single, “SOWE,” a hypnotic blend of post-punk, darkwave, and gothic rock that pays tribute to the genre’s cinematic roots while carving out a sound uniquely their own. Released through MANIA RECORDS, the track further establishes the band’s identity as one of Southern California’s most exciting emerging voices in the modern dark music movement.
Drawing inspiration from gothic horror classics including the 1965 cult film Nightmare Castle and Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 masterpiece Bram Stoker’s Dracula, “SOWE” captures the seductive tension between beauty and darkness. The result is a song that feels haunting yet irresistibly danceable, balancing eerie atmospheres with infectious rhythms.
LOS ANGELES DARKWAVE DUO PARALLEL 33 CAPTIVATES WITH CINEMATIC NEW SINGLE “SOWE”
Musically, “SOWE” evokes the emotional depth of ’80s icons like The Cure while embracing the sleek electronic textures of contemporary darkwave acts such as Mr. Kitty. Rich synthesizers, shimmering guitars, pulsating bass lines, and melancholic vocals create an immersive sonic landscape that feels equally at home on a gothic dance floor or through late-night headphones.
At the heart of Parallel 33 are Michael Zamora and Limbert Palomino, two musicians whose contrasting musical backgrounds have become the band’s greatest strength. Michael’s foundation in rock and metal meets Limbert’s roots in alternative indie and electronic music, united by their shared admiration for the darker side of ’80s alternative culture.
PARALLEL 33, WHERE POST-PUNK MEETS DARKWAVE

The band’s name reflects that duality. “Parallel” represents the meeting point between their different musical journeys, while “33” carries multiple layers of meaning. It marks the age Michael was when the project began, references the mysterious events often associated with the 33rd parallel, and symbolizes an angel number that has repeatedly appeared throughout both musicians’ lives. Together, the name embodies synchronicity, artistic purpose, and a shared creative vision.
Originally from Chicago before settling in Whittier, Michael joins Boyle Heights native Limbert in representing a distinctly Los Angeles perspective on darkwave. Their influences span generations and genres, including Soda Stereo, Caifanes, Héroes del Silencio, Billy Idol, She Past Away, The Sisters of Mercy, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Fobia, Crystal Castles, and TR/ST, all woven into a sound that feels nostalgic without becoming derivative.

Parallel 33 recently showcased that identity with a live performance that perfectly translated their recorded work into an unforgettable concert experience. Their goth and new wave set proved both seductive and hypnotic, driven by pulsing rhythms, shadowy synths, and undeniable post-punk energy. Rather than dwelling solely in darkness, the duo creates music that invites movement, transforming moody atmospheres into communal moments on the dance floor.
The release of “SOWE” also serves as a preview of what’s ahead. Parallel 33 is currently preparing a five-song EP alongside additional singles, promising to further expand their cinematic approach to darkwave while continuing to bridge classic influences with a contemporary edge.
