Few Latin artists have had as many dates on their first U.S. tour as you do with the ETERNO TOUR. How does it feel to
have these many stops across the country?
It’s honestly incredible. Like you said, there are 15 dates, and it’s crazy because I never imagined this would happen. Of course, I dreamed about it, because touring has always been my dream, but today that dream has become a reality. It’s amazing that there are so many dates, and not only in the United States, but also in Mexico. I’m extremely happy, excited, and honestly a little nervous. This is what I love the most, singing on stage, and now I’m going to be doing it a lot more, which makes me even happier.
You will be performing in venues around where you once worked to build a better life. Did you ever image this would happen?
Imagine that! I used to work in Texas, New Mexico, and other places like that. So now, having the opportunity to go back and work again, but this time doing what I love, what I know how to do, and what I’m passionate about, is priceless. It completely changes your perspective on life, comparing how I saw things years ago to how I see them now.
I’m truly grateful to life, to the people who helped put me in this position, and to my entire team, because this is literally a dream come true. Being able to return to places where I once worked extremely hard and now being able to sing for those same people, maybe even people I met along the way, is an unbelievable feeling. Life is crazy, but it’s something that is difficult to explain. It’s something beautiful.
We’ve heard that your father always gave you advice to follow your musical dreams. Now that you’re in the industry, what advice have you received to overcome the challenges artists face in today’s digital world?
There have been many pieces of advice. More than anything, JP has been like a mentor to me. Since I joined the company, he has given me a lot of guidance and taught me so much about the industry and how everything works.
I remember one of the first things he told me when I arrived. It’s a saying, or advice, however people want to take it, but I took it as a lesson: hard work beats talent. We always try to work hard, always give 100%, even 1,000%, because he’s right. Hard work can overcome talent, and we’ve proven that.
We have worked extremely hard this past year and the year before. Obviously, there are moments when the intensity increases as you continue learning and growing. I’ve learned a lot, and I truly believe that hard work is what has brought us here. We are becoming a reference point in regional Mexican music.
Your new album features major collaborations with some of the biggest names in contemporary regional Mexican music, including Chuyin, Armenta, Fuerza Regida, and others. What excites you the most about performing these songs live?
I’m excited to perform all of them. Honestly, I really love this album, and I still listen to it often. But what excites me the most about singing these songs on tour is knowing how much people connected with them.
The song “Tóxicos” especially has been incredible. People love that song everywhere I go, they ask me to perform it. I don’t know, I just have a lot of excitement about singing it live on tour. I feel like that one is going to be special. It has become one of my favorites because the fans made it one of my favorites.
I always knew there was something special about that song, but there’s always that question as an artist. You can say, “I love this song, I created it, and I think it’s a hit,” but the audience decides. In this case, the fans turned it into a hit, and I’m really excited to perform it because they sing it with so much passion, emotion, and happiness.
You’ve mentioned that for you, being eternal means becoming a legend. Does being a legend mean leaving your mark on this world?
Absolutely. The word “eternal” means leaving a mark, leaving a legacy, transcending through music, and creating something that people remember you for. When you’re no longer here, or when we see artists who leave this world too soon, some become legends, they become eternal, because they created something extraordinary through what they did. I want to be one of those people. I want to be someone who transcends music and is remembered in life as well.
I want people to say, “Calle 24’s music helped me when I was sad,” or “I put on my headphones and that song helped me through something.” That’s why I’m also changing my approach a little bit with my songs, making them carry a deeper message. Even if they are love stories, heartbreak songs, or stories about different experiences, I want them to take people somewhere emotionally.
I’ve always said that what moves me the most in this world is music. I can’t live without it. If something can genuinely make me cry, I think it’s a great song or a powerful voice. Music moves me, and that’s the legacy I want to leave behind. Being eternal means many things. It’s difficult, but I’ve already made it this far, and I believe I can achieve it.
Speaking about that evolution and your desire to leave a message through your lyrics and music, what can you tell us about the story behind “EL SENTRITA”?
I had already created an entire album based on the story of a fictional character. It was the complete journey of this character, from entering the world of organized crime to the ending of his story. I narrated his life through nine songs, almost like a movie, until it reached the conclusion that everyone knows.
People reacted really well to that project and connected with it. I wanted to create a second part, the second volume of the album, which was going to be called Mi Nueva Familia. I wanted to continue that story, but because of the current situation in Mexico, where artists can no longer even create fictional stories or sing about certain topics without being judged, I decided to approach it differently.
Now, as artists, we are sometimes treated as if we are the people we are describing in a song, when we are simply creating music. It doesn’t feel fair to be judged for something you don’t do, especially when this is something that has existed for generations. Since Pedro Infante and even historical figures like Pancho Villa, corridos have always been part of our culture.
With “El Sentrita,” I wanted to create another story and give my audience that experience again, but this time with a reflective message for young people today. I wanted them to understand that many things they see or hear about on the streets are not always what they seem.
I’ve experienced difficult situations. I’ve lost friends because of violence and organized crime, so I wanted the song to have another meaning and another intention. I wanted to show a different perspective. Like I say in the song, “the reality is tough.” The reality is tough, and there are many challenges that cannot simply be solved by changing song lyrics.
A country does not improve by banning music. Real change comes from taking stronger actions and addressing the deeper issues. At the end of the day, music is our work, and we should have the ability to share our art, connect with people, and express ourselves. That was the message I wanted to deliver with this song.
